Li, Maruyama and Yamane (2026) constructed the explicit universal RR-matrix of the double-parameter quantum affine algebra Uq,Q(sl^2)U_{q,Q}(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2) and computed its image under a 2N2N-dimensional representation at a primitive NN-th root of unity, producing new solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation; they state as future work the extension of these results to other quantum affine (super)algebras, naming the double-parameter version of the twisted affine quantum superalgebra Uq(A(0,2)(4))U_q(A(0,2)^{(4)}) as the case where the approach must change, because odd imaginary roots occur there and the imaginary root vectors do not commute. This task asks for that extension: define the double-parameter Hopf superalgebra Uq,Q(A(0,2)(4))U_{q,Q}(A(0,2)^{(4)}), establish its structural theory (PBW basis, Drinfeld pairing, coproduct formulas for the imaginary root vectors), construct and prove the explicit formula of its universal RR-matrix, and evaluate it in a finite-dimensional representation to obtain explicit Yang-Baxter solutions. No double-parameter version of Uq(A(0,2)(4))U_q(A(0,2)^{(4)}) is known, and no universal RR-matrix of any twisted affine quantum superalgebra has been constructed: the one-parameter positive part is understood only away from roots of unity and only through subquotient coproducts. The problem is open.

Background

A solution RR of the Yang-Baxter equation is a linear map whose braiding compatibility R12R13R23=R23R13R12R_{12}R_{13}R_{23} = R_{23}R_{13}R_{12} underlies exactly solved two-dimensional lattice models in statistical mechanics and the braid-group representations used in knot theory. For a quantum group - a Hopf algebra Uq(g)U_q(\mathfrak{g}) deforming the universal enveloping algebra of a Kac-Moody algebra g\mathfrak{g}, introduced by Drinfeld and Jimbo in 1986 - the master object is the universal RR-matrix: an invertible element R\mathcal{R} of a suitably completed tensor product U⊗UU\otimes U satisfying the quasitriangularity identities (Δ⊗id)(R)=R13R23(\Delta\otimes\mathrm{id})(\mathcal{R})=\mathcal{R}_{13}\mathcal{R}_{23} and (id⊗Δ)(R)=R13R12(\mathrm{id}\otimes\Delta)(\mathcal{R})=\mathcal{R}_{13}\mathcal{R}_{12}, where Δ\Delta is the coproduct. Every pair of representations then yields a concrete RR-matrix (σ⊗τ)(R)(\sigma\otimes\tau)(\mathcal{R}) solving the Yang-Baxter equation. For the quantum affine algebra Uq(sl^2)U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2) of type A1(1)A_1^{(1)}, the explicit universal RR-matrix was obtained by Levendorskii, Soibelman and Stukopin (1993) and Damiani (1998) through the Drinfeld quantum double method, which builds a quasitriangular Hopf algebra from a Hopf algebra paired with its dual. The method uses Drinfeld's loop realization, in which the algebra is generated by real root vectors Enδ+αiE_{n\delta+\alpha_i} and imaginary root vectors EnδE_{n\delta} (δ\delta is the minimal imaginary root, α0,α1\alpha_0,\alpha_1 the simple roots); for type A1(1)A_1^{(1)} the imaginary root vectors commute with each other (Damiani 1993), their coproducts are known explicitly, and the universal RR-matrix factors as a product R∙δ+α1R∙δR∙δ+α0Rh\mathcal{R}_{\bullet\delta+\alpha_1}\mathcal{R}_{\bullet\delta}\mathcal{R}_{\bullet\delta+\alpha_0}\mathcal{R}_{\mathfrak{h}} of root-string and Cartan factors.

A double-parameter (multiparameter) quantum affine algebra replaces the single scalar qq by a parameter matrix. Li, Maruyama and Yamane (2026) study Uq,Q(sl^2)U_{q,Q}(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2) with the 2×22\times 2 matrix Q=(q2aq−4a−1q2)Q=\begin{pmatrix}q^2 & a\\ q^{-4}a^{-1} & q^2\end{pmatrix}, recovering the usual Uq(sl^2)U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2) at a=q−2a=q^{-2}. Multiparameter quantum groups go back to Reshetikhin (1990) and Okado-Yamane (1991), where the multiparameter RR-matrices arise from standard ones by twisting; García and Gavarini (2026) proved that in the formal ℏ\hbar-adic category (over power-series rings in an indeterminate ℏ\hbar, with q=eℏq = e^\hbar) every multiparameter quantum enveloping algebra is a twist or 2-cocycle deformation of Drinfeld's standard one, and with Paolini (2026) extended that framework to finite-type quantum supergroups. Li-Maruyama-Yamane instead work at roots of unity and show the resulting objects are new: they prove the explicit universal RR-matrix formula for Uq,Q(sl^2)U_{q,Q}(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2); for aq2aq^2 a primitive NN-th root of unity they define a 2N2N-dimensional representation ρ\rho and explicitly determine R(z)=(ρ⊗ρ)(R)\mathcal{R}(z)=(\rho\otimes\rho)(\mathcal{R}) for all NN, proving the Yang-Baxter equation for it (for N=1N=1 this is the RR-matrix of the six-vertex model, the classical ice-type lattice model of statistical mechanics; for N=2N=2 a 16×1616\times 16 matrix whose two scalar functions can be replaced by arbitrary constants without breaking the Yang-Baxter equation). They further prove that the N=2N=2 RR-matrix cannot be obtained from the universal RR-matrix of Uq(sl^2)U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2) by the Drinfeld-Reshetikhin twist, so the double-parameter RR-matrices at roots of unity genuinely escape the classical twist picture.

On the supersymmetric side, Lie superalgebras carry odd (fermionic) generators, whose brackets pick up signs; their affine (Kac-Moody) superalgebras were classified by van de Leur, and the Serre-type defining relations of the corresponding quantized enveloping superalgebras, including the twisted family, are due to Yamane (1999), who had earlier constructed universal RR-matrices for the finite-dimensional simple Lie superalgebras (1994). The twisted affine superalgebra A(0,2)(4)A(0,2)^{(4)} is the rank-2 member of the family A(2m,2n)(4)A(2m,2n)^{(4)}; its Dynkin diagram differs from that of sl^2\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2 only in that one node is odd, so its generalized Cartan matrix and real roots are those of A1(1)A_1^{(1)}, but its imaginary roots behave differently: odd imaginary roots exist and the imaginary root vectors do not commute with each other. Li (2024) determined the structure of the positive part Uv(A(0,2)(4))+U_v(A(0,2)^{(4)})^+ for vv not a root of unity: it is a Nichols algebra (a braided Hopf algebra generalizing the positive part of an enveloping algebra; here its braiding matrix equals that of Uv(sl^2)+U_v(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2)^+ up to one sign), all root multiplicities were determined, a PBW (Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt) basis was constructed, and coproducts of the imaginary root vectors were computed - but only inside a subquotient of the Nichols algebra and only away from roots of unity. The full coproduct formulas, which are essential inputs to the Drinfeld double construction of the universal RR-matrix, are unknown, and no double-parameter version of this superalgebra has been defined.

The question arises from exactly this gap: the Li-Maruyama-Yamane construction of the universal RR-matrix of Uq,Q(sl^2)U_{q,Q}(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2) leans on the commutativity of the imaginary root vectors and on their explicit coproducts, both of which fail for A(0,2)(4)A(0,2)^{(4)}; the authors state that obtaining similar results for the double-parameter version of Uq(A(0,2)(4))U_q(A(0,2)^{(4)}) is future work requiring a very different approach.

Problem Statement

Construct the double-parameter quantum affine superalgebra of type A(0,2)(4)A(0,2)^{(4)} and obtain for it the counterparts of the results that Li-Maruyama-Yamane (2026) established for Uq,Q(sl^2)U_{q,Q}(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2). Concretely:

(1) Define the double-parameter version Uq,Q(A(0,2)(4))U_{q,Q}(A(0,2)^{(4)}): a Hopf superalgebra deforming the enveloping algebra of the twisted affine Lie superalgebra A(0,2)(4)A(0,2)^{(4)}, depending on qq and on one further parameter aa genuinely independent of qq through a 2×22\times 2 parameter matrix QQ analogous to (q2aq−4a−1q2)\begin{pmatrix}q^2 & a\\ q^{-4}a^{-1} & q^2\end{pmatrix} of the A1(1)A_1^{(1)} case, including its Serre-type defining relations (the quantized analogues of the Serre relations of a Kac-Moody algebra, with signs on the odd generators) and its coproduct, such that the one-parameter specialization a=q−2a=q^{-2} recovers Yamane's Uv(A(0,2)(4))U_v(A(0,2)^{(4)}) and the positive part of this specialization is isomorphic to Li's Nichols algebra Uv(A(0,2)(4))+U_v(A(0,2)^{(4)})^+, with the same root multiplicities.

(2) Establish the structural theory required by the construction of the universal RR-matrix: a PBW basis in root vectors, a non-degenerate Drinfeld pairing between the positive and negative parts (the Hopf pairing on which the double construction rests), and full coproduct formulas for the imaginary root vectors - the step where the A1(1)A_1^{(1)} method breaks down, since A(0,2)(4)A(0,2)^{(4)} possesses odd imaginary roots and its imaginary root vectors do not commute, and only subquotient coproducts (away from roots of unity, in the one-parameter positive part) are currently known.

(3) Derive and prove the explicit formula of the universal RR-matrix of Uq,Q(A(0,2)(4))U_{q,Q}(A(0,2)^{(4)}): an element of an explicitly specified completion of the tensor product of the algebra with itself, in a fixed ambient setting (the algebra at generic parameters with a stated completion, or a root-of-unity quotient, as in the main theorem of the A1(1)A_1^{(1)} case, where the root-of-unity construction and the separate formal ℏ\hbar-adic version are treated as distinct settings), satisfying the quasitriangularity identities there, in an explicit form (which in the A1(1)A_1^{(1)} case is the factorized product R∙δ+α1R∙δR∙δ+α0Rh\mathcal{R}_{\bullet\delta+\alpha_1}\mathcal{R}_{\bullet\delta}\mathcal{R}_{\bullet\delta+\alpha_0}\mathcal{R}_{\mathfrak{h}} of root-string and Cartan factors).

(4) As the representation-theoretic counterpart confirming the construction, evaluate the universal RR-matrix in a concrete nontrivial finite-dimensional representation - nontrivial in the sense that not all root vectors act as zero, which excludes the one-dimensional trivial module on which R(z)\mathcal{R}(z) reduces to the scalar 11 - (for instance at roots of unity, in the spirit of the 2N2N-dimensional representation of the A1(1)A_1^{(1)} case) and produce explicit solutions R(z)\mathcal{R}(z) of the Yang-Baxter equation with a proof of the equation.

The common scientific objective is the transfer of the double-parameter universal-RR-matrix theory from type A1(1)A_1^{(1)} to the twisted affine superalgebra A(0,2)(4)A(0,2)^{(4)}: all four items are required deliverables, with items (1)-(2) as sequential structural prerequisites of the central deliverable (3) and item (4) as its representation-theoretic counterpart.
