The Yangian admits order- evaluation presentations - monodromies of Jordan-Schwinger-type -operators embedded in Heisenberg algebras, depending on complex parameters - whose highest-weight representations are intertwined by parameter-permutation operators built from integral -operators obeying Yang-Baxter relations. Kirschner (arXiv:2508.11980, 2025) showed that, acting on the constant highest-weight vector, these intertwiners produce permutation coefficients - products of Euler beta functions of the parameters - and demonstrated for and the second-order evaluation that their zeros, poles, and small-shift asymptotics distinguish the representation types, reproducing the Nazarov-Tarasov and Molev irreducibility criteria. The completion of this program is open: the constructions are restricted to beta sequences of adjacent transpositions, the reducibility classification via permutation-coefficient analytic loci is carried out only at rank two and low order, the dependence on the integration contour defining the -operators is unexamined beyond the boundary-free choice, and the asserted equivalence with factorization-method permutation operators is unproven in general. The problem asks for the complete theory: well-defined intertwiners for arbitrary parameter permutations, a general-rank and general-order classification of representation types in terms of the coefficients' analytic structure, the contour dependence, and the equivalence with factorization-based operators. The problem has not been addressed in the subsequent literature.
Background
The Yangian is the Hopf deformation of the universal enveloping algebra of the loop algebra ; its generators can be arranged into a matrix of formal series in a spectral parameter satisfying the RTT relation with Yang's rational -matrix - the exchange relation between tensor factors, whose coefficients define the commutation relations of the generators. Representations are commonly obtained through the evaluation homomorphism : pulling back -modules gives evaluation modules, and tensor products of evaluation modules with independent shifts are the basic Yangian representations. Kirschner's paper realizes these concretely. By the Jordan-Schwinger (JS) construction, the generators are built from Heisenberg canonical pairs , and an -operator composed of them satisfies the RTT relation. The Biedenharn iterative construction - implemented through Dirac-type constraints imposed on pairs of canonical variables - then produces order- evaluation presentations: monodromies that are products of JS-type -operators depending on complex parameters , embedded in a Heisenberg algebra. The representations studied are those with a highest weight: the space is spanned by monomials multiplying a highest-weight function, a homogeneous function of the coordinates whose degrees of homogeneity are the parameters; in the base case the highest-weight vector is the constant function .
The intertwiners of this framework are parameter-permutation operators. The building blocks are -operators solving the Yang-Baxter relation with two JS -operators - the compatibility relation of the source's eq. (4.1) - given explicitly as a contour integral over a shift operator, ; an integral operator of this form also appeared in scattering-amplitude calculations in super Yang-Mills theory. The power of in the integrand is a kernel fixed by solving the differential relation that arises when the Yang-Baxter relation is checked by integrating by parts; the derivation assumes that this integration by parts produces no boundary terms, as holds for closed contours. A different choice of integration contour or boundary condition changes the integration-by-parts rule and would modify and hence the -operators; the source does not classify these choices. Restricted to the constraint surfaces of the Biedenharn construction, these become elementary operators that interchange two adjacent parameters of the array and intertwine the monodromies, ; by Proposition 8 of the source, intertwiners exist exactly when the parameter arrays are related by permutations of the components, up to an overall shift. Acting with a product of elementary permutation operators on the constant highest-weight vector produces a number, the permutation coefficient, ; in all classes evaluated in the paper these are products of Euler beta functions of the parameters. Their analytic structure is the central object: zeros and poles occur precisely at non-negative integer parameter differences, and the asymptotics of under a small shift of a parameter pair changes character exactly when the representation degenerates. For and the second-order evaluation the paper shows in detail (its sect. 8) that these analytic loci encode the representation type - irreducible, or reducible with an invariant monomial subspace cut out by a non-negative integer parameter, including the appearance of a secondary highest-weight vector (a second vector, besides the generating one, that satisfies the highest-weight condition and hence generates a proper invariant subspace) - thereby reproducing, from a new constructive angle, the classical irreducibility criteria for tensor products of Yangian evaluation modules due to Nazarov-Tarasov and to Molev. At general rank the paper constructs beta sequences: decompositions of a permutation into adjacent transpositions chosen so that every elementary integral reduces to a beta integral (the contour taken as a Pochhammer-type closed contour around the two branch points), including the 1-to-1 beta sequences exchanging the parameter at position of one factor with that of the adjacent factor, with coefficients (its Propositions 9 and 10).
Problem Statement
Within the framework of Kirschner's arXiv:2508.11980 - order- evaluation presentations of the Yangian embedded in Heisenberg algebras via the Jordan-Schwinger/Biedenharn construction, their highest-weight representations generated from the constant vector , and elementary adjacent-parameter permutation operators obtained from the integral -operators - complete the permutation-coefficient theory of the intertwiners:
(1) General permutations beyond beta sequences. Characterize which permutations of the parameter array admit a well-defined action of the corresponding products of elementary permutation operators on the constant highest-weight vector, including the limiting and analytic-continuation procedure required when integer parameter differences make the beta integrals singular (the 'careful limits' that the source avoids by restricting to beta sequences).
(2) General-rank, general-order classification. Establish the classification of representation types - irreducibility, conditions for reducibility together with the subrepresentation structure, and the appearance of secondary highest-weight vectors (vectors that, like the generating highest-weight vector, satisfy the highest-weight condition but generate a proper invariant subspace) - of the order- evaluation representations for general and general in terms of the analytic structure (zeros, poles, and small-shift asymptotics) of the permutation coefficients, generalizing the second-order analysis of the source's sect. 8.4, and verify that the resulting classification reproduces the Nazarov-Tarasov and Molev irreducibility criteria in the overlapping cases of tensor products of evaluation modules.
(3) Contour dependence. Classify the admissible choices of integration contour (equivalently, of the integration-by-parts rule) used to define the integral -operators; determine how the kernel solving the defining differential relations, the resulting -operators, permutation operators, and permutation coefficients depend on this choice; and clarify whether and in what sense the representation-type classification of (2) is contour-independent.
(4) Equivalence with the factorization method. Prove or refute the equivalence of the -operator-based permutation operators with the parameter-permutation operators obtained by the factorization method (an alternative construction, due to Derkachov-Karakhanyan-Kirschner and successors, that builds -operators and Lax matrices as products of simpler factors) for all ranks , all orders , and all parameter regimes, including the explicit mapping of normalization conventions.
These components serve one common objective: a complete, contour-consistent, normalization-consistent theory in which explicit intertwiners for arbitrary parameter permutations classify the representation types of order- evaluation representations of through the analytic loci of their permutation coefficients. All four components are jointly required to complete this objective: components (1)-(3) each require a positive characterization (a classification or a well-definedness statement) rather than an example, and component (4) is resolved by either a proof or a refutation of the equivalence.
