The finite-size eigenfunctions of the one-dimensional multicomponent quantum gases with repulsive delta-function interactions — the two-component Gaudin-Yang model and the Sutherland models for three or more components, in both bosonic and fermionic statistics — are known explicitly as nested Bethe ansatz superpositions parameterized by charge rapidities and by spin rapidities that, for components, form nested sets — a single set in the two-component case (), which is the form written in Appendix A of Pâţu and Aupetit-Diallo (2025), but the normalization constant of these eigenfunctions is not known. The problem is to derive and prove an explicit formula for this constant (equivalently for its squared modulus , the squared norm of the unnormalized nested Bethe superpositions) for arbitrary particle number , arbitrary numbers of spin rapidities in the nested sets, and arbitrary number of components . By analogy with all proven cases — the Lieb-Liniger boson (Korepin), the lattice , , , , and chains — the answer is expected to be a Gaudin-type determinant of the Jacobian of the nested Bethe equations, but no such formula has been published for the continuum multicomponent gases.
Background
The Lieb-Liniger model describes bosons on a line interacting via a repulsive delta-function potential of strength ; its exact eigenfunctions are superpositions of plane waves with permuted quasimomenta (the coordinate Bethe ansatz), and the are fixed by the Bethe equations. When the particles carry an internal spin with components and the interaction is spin-independent, the exact solution requires the nested Bethe ansatz: the wavefunction is still a superposition over charge-sector permutations, but the coefficients are themselves eigenfunctions of an inhomogeneous spin chain, parameterized by spin rapidities that form nested sets , each set consisting of rapidities (the single set for ). This yields the Gaudin-Yang model for (two-component fermions, after Yang, or the two-component spinor Bose gas) and the Sutherland models for . For a finite system of length the resulting eigenfunction — with particle coordinates and spin labels — is explicit: for the spinor gases it is written, e.g., in Appendix A of Pâţu and Aupetit-Diallo (2025) (which spells out the two-component case ; for the same structural form holds, with the nested spin-chain amplitudes carrying the rapidity sets ) as a sum over charge permutations and coordinate permutations of sector functions times a bosonic factor or the fermionic one — up to a single overall constant , where () for bosons (fermions). Gaudin conjectured in 1971 that the squared norm of a Bethe eigenfunction equals the determinant of the Jacobian of the Bethe equations (the Gaudin determinant, or Gaudin hypothesis); Korepin proved this for the Lieb-Liniger and nonlinear Schrödinger models using the quantum inverse scattering method in 1982, and Dorlas gave an independent proof in 1993. For multicomponent systems the situation is sharply worse. On the lattice, the norm of nested Bethe vectors has been proven in increasing generality: Reshetikhin for -symmetric chains, Tarasov and Varchenko for via quantized Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations, Hutsalyuk, Liashyk, Pakuliak, Ragoucy and Slavnov for -symmetric and -invariant chains, and Liashyk, Pakuliak and Ragoucy for -invariant models (2025). For the continuum multicomponent gases, however, only a conjecture exists even for the closely related one-dimensional Hubbard chain (Göhmann and Korepin, 1999), and the algebraic Bethe ansatz program for the continuum two-component Bose gas (Slavnov; Pakuliak-Ragoucy-Slavov) deliberately leaves eigenvector normalization untreated, working with unnormalized states and determinant form factors. The question was re-posed in 2025 by Pâţu and Aupetit-Diallo in their exact study of the free expansion of spinor gases from power-law traps: their stationary-phase asymptotics of the time-dependent wavefunction requires the full nested Bethe eigenfunction, and they state plainly that the normalization constant is unknown — known in the Lieb-Liniger case both for finite and infinite systems (Gaudin; Korepin; Dorlas), but for multicomponent systems conjectured only for the finite-size Hubbard model. The constant cancels in their final asymptotic formulas, so the gap is structural rather than an obstruction to their results: it blocks normalized overlaps, form factors and correlation functions for the continuum multicomponent gases at finite coupling.
Problem Statement
Derive and prove an explicit finite-size normalization formula for the nested Bethe ansatz eigenfunctions of the one-dimensional continuum multicomponent quantum gases with repulsive delta-function interaction of strength . Concretely: for the two-component Gaudin-Yang model (, spin rapidities ) and the multicomponent Sutherland models ( components, spin rapidities organized in the nested sets ), for both bosonic () and fermionic () statistics, for arbitrary particle number , arbitrary numbers of spin rapidities in the nested sets, and a finite system of length with periodic boundary conditions and on-shell rapidities (i.e., and solving the nested Bethe equations), determine the normalization constant of the eigenfunction of the form written in Appendix A of Pâţu and Aupetit-Diallo (2025) — equivalently, a closed-form expression for the squared norm of the unnormalized nested Bethe superposition (the sum without the overall constant ) as a function of the charge rapidities , the spin rapidity sets , , , , and — together with a proof that the formula is correct. The formula must (i) reduce to the proven Gaudin-Korepin determinant when the spin sector is trivial (, or all ), (ii) respect the separate permutation symmetry of in the and in the rapidities within each nested set , and (iii) be valid for generic (non-degenerate, non-string) Bethe roots, with the degenerate-root limit stated if it differs. A complete answer is expected to confirm or refute the natural expectation, by analogy with all proven lattice cases and the Göhmann-Korepin Hubbard conjecture, that the norm is a Gaudin-type determinant built from the Jacobian of the full nested system of Bethe equations.
